However, a few days ago when OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra As the specifications and leaks of the OnePlus 6T started coming out, that old tech-crazy inside me came back to life. OnePlus once rocked the market as a ‘flagship killer’. But I think they lost their edge a bit in the middle. So, will they regain their old reign with this new Ace 6 Ultra?
In today’s article, we will take a deep dive into the ins and outs of this phone. This is not a sponsored post, but rather a discussion from a pure user experience perspective. Let’s get started!
Unboxing Experience: How does it feel?
When you buy a premium phone, the feeling of opening the box is different, right? OnePlus has always maintained a signature style in their packaging. The iconic red box gives a premium feel as soon as you hold it in your hand.
When we open the box, the first thing we see is the phone we want. When we put the phone away, we see below:
- A high-quality TPU case (which is much better than the cheap transparent covers on the market).
- SuperVOOC fast charging brick (yes, OnePlus hasn’t stopped including chargers in the box like Apple or Samsung, so thank you to them for that!).
- Signature Red Type-C Cable.
- Some papers, stickers, and a SIM ejector tool.
Overall, there’s no room for complaint about the contents of the box. Everything you need is there.
Design and build quality: How does it feel in the hand?
Design is something that is entirely a matter of personal preference, but looking at the design of the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra, you can’t say it looks bad.
What struck me when I first picked up the phone was its weight distribution. The phone is quite large in size, the battery is huge, but it doesn’t feel that heavy in your hand. The material they’ve used on the back panel doesn’t easily pick up fingerprints. This is a great thing for those like me who don’t like using covers on their phones.
The camera module is quite large, which gives the phone the look of a professional camera. However, the phone wobbles a bit when placed on a table due to that high camera bump. The sides are quite sturdy due to the metal frame. And yes, OnePlus’ famous ‘Alert Slider’ is present here in its full glory. Only a OnePlus user will understand how useful this feature of silencing the phone without having to look at it from the pocket before entering a meeting is.
Display: Peace of mind for the eyes!
I always say that the most important part of a phone is its display, because at the end of the day, you’ll be looking at this screen.
The OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra features a massive 6.8-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED display. Its refresh rate can range from 1Hz to 144Hz. What does that mean? That means when you’re scrolling or playing games, it’ll run at 144Hz, buttery smooth! And when you’re looking at a picture or reading a book, it’ll drop to 1Hz, saving your phone’s battery.
It is worth mentioning its brightness. I did not face any problem while standing in the hot sun at noon while looking at a map or reading text. According to the company’s claim, its peak brightness is about 4500 nits! Although we do not use this much brightness in practical life, but this extra brightness takes the video quality to another level when watching HDR videos.
The experience of watching movies on Netflix or Amazon Prime on this phone is simply amazing. The colors are so vibrant and the black levels are so deep that it feels like you’re sitting in a mini movie theater in your hands.

Performance and Gaming: The Real Monster
Now let’s come to the section for which this phone is highlighted the most – performance.
The OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra is powered by either Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (assuming it’s an Ultra-level phone) or the latest MediaTek Dimensity processor, along with 16GB or up to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM.
To be honest, it can be argued that 24GB of RAM is really necessary in a smartphone these days. My laptop has 16GB of RAM! But when you have 20-25 heavy apps open in the background at the same time and switch between them without reloading, you will understand the point of this extra RAM.
Gaming Experience:
I’m not a hardcore gamer myself, but I have to do all the tests to review. I played games like ‘Genshin Impact’ or ‘Call of Duty: Mobile’ on max settings. Even after playing the game for an hour straight, I didn’t notice any frame drops.
Alongside RAM, it is essential to discuss the phone’s storage speed. OnePlus has utilized the latest UFS 4.0 storage technology in this device. This means that whenever you copy large video files or install heavy games, the process will complete in the blink of an eye. You can expect data transfer rates that are nearly twice as fast compared to the previous model.
It’s normal for a phone to get hot while gaming. However, OnePlus has used a huge Vapor Cooling Chamber here. As a result, even though the phone gets hot, it never reaches a point where it’s uncomfortable to hold in your hand. This phone could be a perfect choice for those who play games and stream regularly.
Camera: Is it just the megapixels that matter?
Usually, companies don’t pay much attention to the camera in gaming or performance-centric phones. They think, “Users will play games, so what will they do with the camera!” But the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra has tried to strike a balance here.
The phone has a triple camera setup on the back:
1. Primary sensor (50MP): This sensor takes great pictures in daylight. The color science is quite natural, not too artificial or over-saturated. It can also capture skin tones quite well.
2. Ultrawide lens (48MP): Most phones only have an ultrawide lens in name only. But here there’s not much difference in color between the main lens and the ultrawide. It’s great for taking landscape photos.
3. Periscope Telephoto Lens (64MP): My favorite lens! With 3x or 5x optical zoom, you can take portraits that rival DSLRs. The background blur is perfect.
Night mode and video:
The phone didn’t disappoint when it came to taking pictures at night either. Noise control is pretty good and it can retain details even in low light.
In terms of video, you can record up to 8K. However, I would suggest shooting at 4K 60fps, as that is where the stabilization (OIS) works best. If you like vlogging, this camera will give you enough support.
Battery and Charging: No More Battery Anxiety!
One of the biggest problems in our lives is—”Hey, my phone isn’t charging!”
The OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra has a massive battery of 5500 mAh to 6000 mAh. I found that even with heavy usage (gaming, camera tests, YouTube, social media) I still had about 20-25% charge left at the end of the day. For average users, it will easily last for one and a half to two days.
But the real surprise is its charging speed. With the 100W or 120W fast charger provided in the box, it takes just 25-30 minutes to charge the phone from 0 to 100%!
Imagine waking up in the morning and finding that your phone is not charged. You put the phone on charge and went to brush your teeth, only to come back refreshed and find that the phone is fully charged! This fast charging technology has really made our daily lives a lot easier.

Software and user interface (OxygenOS)
No matter how powerful the hardware is, if the software isn’t good, the entire experience falls flat.
OnePlus’ OxygenOS (ColorOS in China) has had mixed reviews. It was once the cleanest UI that was close to stock Android. Now it has a lot of Oppo touches. But in my opinion, the current OxygenOS is quite smooth and feature-packed.
There’s no unnecessary bloatware or annoying ads. The animations are so fluid that there’s a strange peace to using the phone.
The wonders of Artificial Intelligence (AI):
In 2024-25, no flagship can be imagined without AI. This phone also has some great AI features. Like removing unwanted objects from photos with one click, live translation during calls, and creating meeting summaries with AI. These small features help a lot in daily work.
Audio, haptics and connectivity
We often forget about the phone’s speaker or vibration motor, but these little things give it a premium feel.
- Speaker: It has dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. The sound is quite loud and clear. The sound does not crack even at full volume.
- Haptics: The small vibrations (haptic feedback) that occur while typing are amazing. OnePlus’ O-Haptics engine is one of the best on the market.
- Connectivity: 5G support, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4—meaning the phone is completely future-proof for the next 3-4 years.
Who should buy this phone? (Buyer Persona)
I’ve sung a lot of praises so far. Now, let’s get down to business—should you buy this phone? I’ve created some user profiles, compare them and see which category you fall into:
1. Hardcore Gamer: If you are someone who plays PUBG, Free Fire or Genshin Impact all day and doesn’t want to compromise on performance, then this phone is the perfect choice for you.
2. Multitasker Professional: Those who do a lot of work on their phones, use many apps at once, and need more battery backup can get it.
3. Casual Photographer: If you like casual photography and love uploading pictures to social media, its camera will satisfy you.
4. People who should not buy: If you like very small or compact phones, this phone is not for you. It is quite large in size and takes up quite a bit of space in your pocket.
Comparison with competing brands
OnePlus is no longer alone in the market. How does the Ace 6 Ultra compare to brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, or iQOO?
- Comparison with Samsung Galaxy S series: Samsung’s software and camera may be a little more refined, but OnePlus is far ahead in terms of fast charging and gaming performance.
- Comparison with Xiaomi or iQOO: While iQOO is great for gaming, OnePlus has much greater global appeal in terms of software experience and brand value.
Some negative aspects (Pros & Cons)
For the sake of honesty, some of the negative aspects of the phone should also be highlighted, because nothing is 100% perfect.
Positive aspects (Pros):
- Outstanding performance and thermal management.
- Eye-catching 2K LTPO display.
- Great fast charging and large battery.
- Clean software experience.
- Alert slider.
Cons:
- The phone may seem quite large and a bit heavy to many.
- If the IP rating is not IP68 (sometimes given on pro models, not on base models), then that is a concern.
- The speed of wireless charging could have been increased a little more.
Last words: my personal opinion
All in all OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra Is it really a value for money device?
In my opinion, yes! If you’re looking for a smartphone that’s a monster in terms of performance, looks premium, offers all-day battery backup, and can be fully charged in 15-20 minutes—then there are very few better options in the market right now.
OnePlus may be moving away from their old ‘flagship killer’ tag and now making ‘true flagships’ themselves. And this transition seems quite logical to me.
So, what do you think? What is your opinion on the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra? Are you thinking of buying it, or are you leaning towards another brand? Be sure to let me know in the comments! I look forward to chatting with you all in the comments section.
